Colchani

The small village of Colchani is situated 20km south of Uyuni. This tiny village’s main purpose is to process salt. Colchani is home to just over 600 people and Bolivia’s largest salt-processing industry. It is estimated that 10 billion tonnes of salt are in the Bolivian salt flats. 25,000 tonnes of this salt are excavated and processed every year in Colchani.
